October 1, 2007: Conference Proposal Deadline. Thank you for submitting your proposals. All submissions will be notified of acceptance or rejection via email by November 16, 2007.
September 1, 2007: Travel Assistance Awards available for 2008 Conference. Thanks to the generosity of Torch Hill, NCHE will once again offer travel assistance awards to K-12 teachers for expenses related to the 2008 conference in Louisville. See the Travel Assistance page for submission guidelines and deadlines.
August 15, 2007: Conference Registration to open September 1. NCHE will begin accepting reservations for the 2008 National Conference on September 1. The deadline to submit a concurrent or poster session proposal is October 1, 2007 at 9:00 am EST. See the Proposal Information page for more details.

June 29, 2007: NCHE to offer Backstretch Breakfast Tour at 2008 Conference! Join your fellow horse-racing fans for a special behind-the-scenes breakfast tour of Churchill Downs. Begin with a short walk past some of the barns that are along the way to the track kitchen. You might catch a glimpse of a Thoroughbred being bathed and the hot steam rolling off his back. Upon arriving at the track kitchen you will enjoy a hearty, southern style breakfast as you watch the early morning training workouts for some of the world’s finest Thoroughbreds. After breakfast wander outside to the patio for a discussion about the business of Thoroughbred racing. Be sure to step a little closer to the rail. Hear the hoofs hitting the track as a horse breezes past during its morning workout. Be sure to bring you camera! This is an experience you will never forget. June 8, 2007: A Civil War specialist at the National Archives has discovered a handwritten note from Abraham Lincoln encouraging the Union generals at Gettysburg to attack the fleeing Confederates following the battle in July of 1863. Read more from the National Archives here.
