The National Council for History Education, along with the American Historical Association, the Organization of American Historians, and the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History have endorsed "The Next Generation of History Teachers," which challenges history departments to reflect on how history teachers are currently trained, and to reflect on how "historians in higher education might educate, in more purposeful and effective ways, the future teachers among their own students."
